My kids and I love to visit the Como Zoo in St. Paul, Minnesota at least once a year and each time we visit, I'm always mesmerized by this small cottage with the water wheel and beautiful flowers surrounding it. I must have dozens of the same photo on my phone from this exact spot.
I have a love-hate relationship with zoos. On one hand I don't like the fact that animals are enclosed and not able to run free as they're meant to, but on the other hand, I understand and respect that many zoos, such as this one, are doing a lot of conservation work to help the animals.
When I first started exploring watercolor, I knew I wanted to recreate one of my photos with this medium. I added line art to the final piece and love it both with and without the added details!
